Lenten Worship Begins
The liturgical season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 21, 2007. This begins the 40 days of preparation for Easter, in remembrance of Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness after his baptism. Traditionally, some people like to “give something up” as a Lenten discipline (i.e. chocolate, hamburgers, TV, …); others “take something on” (i.e. daily meditation or Bible study). In the United Methodist Church, we don’t officially endorse a Lenten discipline, but I would personally recommend that you consider what you can do in your daily life to remind yourself of the sacrifice that Jesus made for you. When you follow a Lenten discipline, it heightens your sense of joy and celebration on Easter Sunday.
To help you with your Lenten walk, we will offer several extra worship opportunities. On Ash Wednesday, February 21, we will have a worship service at 7:15 pm with the imposition of ashes for those who desire.
